The Ichi kiln has over 70 skilled craftspeople. They work with a large variety of glazes and use a unique hand-finishing technique to create tableware with an individual touch. Made in Japan are proud to have been working in partnership with the Ichi kiln for over 30 years

Slight irregularities in size, glaze and texture reflect the artisan nature of the product and are embraced.

Made in Japan tableware is food safe and can, with some care, be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher. Sudden changes in temperature (eg. from freezer to oven) are likely to cause thermal shock, which will damage your item. Always place very hot items onto either wood or cloth.

Made in Japan are a family run business in South Melbourne who deal directly with the makers, dropping by their kilns to check out their new glazes and designs and generally catching up to see what’s new. Much of the time they are dealing with the sons of the fathers first dealt with 30 years back, so there’s a lot to catch up on.

They deal with lots of kilns, mainly from Central Japan, as this is where the clay is found and their warehouse in Japan is in the thick of it. The tableware Made in Japan source is seldom seen outside of this area and is often only used in restaurants and homes in the areas around the makers’ kilns.
