Namaka Made Jewellery Care
Wear or handle your items as often as possible: by frequently exposing Mother of Pearl, Pearl or Opal to the natural oils in your skin, you’ll keep it from drying out and losing its lustre.
Avoid exposing your items to coarse chemicals: don’t expose your Mother of Pearl, Pearl or Opal items to harsh substances like perfume, suntan lotion, citrus juice, alcohol, baking soda, vinegar, and soaps etc.
Carefully clean your items, only when necessary: invest in a microfibre cloth or special jewellery cleaning fabric, then lightly wet it before wiping away dust, grime or fingerprints. The fragile surface needs to be protected.
Be mindful of how your store your n ā m a k a items: Mother of Pearl, Pearls and Opals shouldn’t be tossed into a jewellery box with other hard gemstones and chains. Instead, use your n ā m a k a satin pouches - which come with every purchase, to keep it free from chips and scratches.
Do not submerge your n ā m a k a items in water: Take them off when swimming or in the shower!
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight or arid heat: Mother of Pearl is sensitive to this and you need to take all precautions to ensure that the shell doesn’t dry out and get brittle. We like to use a tiny drop of cuticle oil to keep it moist.
To extend the life of your gold plated and vermeil jewellery, avoid wearing when washing hands, showering, applying lotion, using harsh cleaning supplies or working out. To clean, buff gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth or a microfibre cloth. Do not use jewellery cleaner on gold plated jewellery.
